Ear wax removal performed by a suitably qualified professional
Regarded as the “Gold Standard” for ear wax removal.
What causes impacted or excess ear wax?
Ear wax is normal and our ears generally self-clean, however some people naturally produce excess wax. Excess wax can become impacted, especially with the use of cotton buds. With age earwax becomes drier and can become impacted. Other causes can be foreign bodies such as hearing aids, use of ear buds or earplugs, hairy or narrow ear canals, frequent ear infections or exposure to water.
What is Aural Microsuction?
Using a microscope to aid clear visualisation of the ear canal, the practitioner inserts a small probe into the ear canal and gentle suction is used to remove wax, avoiding contact with the eardrum or ear canal. It is generally painless but hard wax removal may be uncomfortable. It will be a bit noisy, but the noise is not loud enough to cause hearing damage. Some people experience short lived dizziness or ringing in the ears afterwards. Jenny will fully discuss the procedure in a consultation.
Why use Aural Microsuction?
It is considered to be the “Gold Standard” method of earwax removal. Research has proven it to be safer, with less complications and contraindications than other methods.
What to expect from an appointment?
Ideally you will have used olive oil (drops or a spray called Earol, which is easier to apply, both are available over the counter at from a pharmacy) for at least 3 days prior to the consultation. This helps to soften wax, which will make the procedure easier and less likely to be uncomfortable.
Both ears will be examined and assessed with an otoscope (an instrument which magnifies and lights up the ear canal) to assess whether your ears need wax removal. The charge for ear assessment will be deducted from the cost of wax removal if it is performed.
Jenny will take a medical history and ask about current medication taken (please bring a list or repeat prescription if there is a lot of medication to remember). Jenny will discuss the procedure and ensure that you understand what it entails. You will have time to ask any questions before being asked to sign a consent form. Your information will be confidential, but she will ask if with your permission she can email your GP with a brief outline of the consultation.
During the procedure you will need to keep as still as possible. It is noisy and may feel strange and can be stopped at any time. Ideally all wax will be cleared but sometimes, especially if wax is very hard and impacted a second visit may be required after applying further olive oil. If this is necessary it will be at a reduced rate.
Following the procedure, Jenny will advise about aftercare.
If wax removal is not required, Jenny will advise what you should do next.

Highly Recommend
Jenny was able to fit me in at the last minute for an emergency appointment. She talked me through the process clearly and made sure I was comfortable throughout. I needed to comeback for a second appointment within a week before flying and she fitted me in no problem (which is still greatly appreciated thank you!). Will definitely come back again, very reasonably priced and the process was quick and painless. Highly recommend

Jenny was really friendly. First time having ear suction done. Weird experience but Jenny was checking I was okay during the procedure. Would recommend Jenny for anyone having issues with ear wax build up. Also good to support a small local business. Thanks again Jenny!
